1. Geoportals as Interfaces for Spatial Data InfrastructuresLecturer: Dr. Josef Strobl, professor at the University of Salzburg, leading the Interfaculty Department of Geoinformatics, full member of the Austrian Academy of Science As a discipline, we recently have moved from maps to geospatial data and further to online services. Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) today are widely implemented as services-based architectures providing access to the information and knowledge contained in spatial data. Terms like ‚map‘ and ‚atlas‘ are still helpful as metaphors when working with dynamic interfaces for interaction with SDIs, but the separation of data storage and communication purposes has substantially changed our field. Instead of maps as static representations, geoportals can offer live access to realtime observations in support of monitoring the state of our environment. The design, development and operation of SDIs therefore are hugely important qualifications for geospatial professionals. When: 15 April 2019, 10.40-12.00 |
